The Islamic Cultural Center of Fresno hosted the 10th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks by calls for unity, prayers and hope for peaceful tomorrow.  Hundreds of community members from diverse faith and ethnic communities, families and children joined Saturday evening for the anniversary commemoration.

Fresno Mayor Asheley Swearengin spoke during the ceremony and led the recognition of officers from the Fresno Police Department’s Northeast district who were recognized  for their efforts to safeguard the community.  Guest speaker Nancy Meyer spoke on behalf of September 11th Families for Peaceful Tomorrows and called for an end to all violence, especially  in the name of 9/11.  High school student Talia Cherney sang the National Anthem and prayers were recited by Rev. Chris Erdman of  University Presbyterian Church, Rev. Natalie Chamberlain of United Christian Church, Pastor Norman Broadbent of First Congregational Church, Darius Assemi and Kamal Abu-Shamsieh of the Islamic Center.

Children and youth from around the Valley led the participants in releasing doves and send a message of peace and wishes for brighter tomorrow.
