Islamic Cultural Center hosts Ramadan events

The Islamic center’s events began Friday with a break-the-fast gathering. The Rev. Natalie Chamberlain of United Christian Church in west-central Fresno and KFSN (Channel 30.1) also received 2013 Spirit of Abraham awards.

The events continue with a lecture/dinner fundraiser at 6 p.m. Friday at the center, 2111 E. Nees Ave.

John Esposito, professor of religion and Islamic Studies at Georgetown University and director of the Center for Muslim-Christian Understanding at the university, is the speaker.  The event’s theme — “Being Muslim in America” — examines the success and challenges of promoting peace.

Esposito was booked as speaker of the 2010 Interfaith Scholar Weekend in Fresno, but he had scheduling conflicts and bowed out.

Tickets for the dinner cost $25 for general or $10 for students and children.

2013 ICCF Spirit of Abraham Award Ceremony

The presentation of the 2013 Spirit of Abraham Award took place on Friday, July 12, 2013 at 6:30 pm at the Islamic Cultural Center of Fresno (ICCF).
Seyed Ali Ghazvini, Imam and spiritual leader of ICCF presented the award to Rev. Chamberlain (left), pastor of  United Christian Church and co-chair of the Interfaith alliance of Central California. She was recognized for her unwavering leadership in fostering understanding across different ethnic, religious and cultural groups.
Dan Adams (right) , President and general manager of KFSN- TV received the award on behalf of the ABC 30News from Darius Assemi. AC 30 News received this award for objectively covering the news about Muslims in Central San Joaquin Valley and ICCF, as well as highlighting the positive role the interfaith community plays as a healing and constructive force in public life.
