ICCF Announces the 2011/2012 Board of Trustees

The Board of Directors of the Islamic Cultural Center of Fresno thanks all community members who submitted an application to serve on the Board of Trustees.  The deadline to submit the application was Monday, October 30 and the Board met to finalize the process of approving the selection of the Board of Trustees members in a special meeting on Tuesday, November 1.

The Board of Trustees will meet on Tuesday, 11/22 at 7 PM at the Center.

The members of the 2011/2012 Board of Trustees (in alphabetical order)

Hengameh Akhtar, Irfan Ali, Sonia Assemi, Ghassane Habib, Abdul Hanifi, Huda Munjy, Jamal Madani, Atif Qureshi, Forouz Radnejad, Mohammad Rocka and Razia Sheikh.

ICCF Launches Emergency Campaign for Victims of Turkey’s Earthquake

The Islamic Cultural Center is launching its emergency fund campaign to aid the victims of the earthquake in Turkey.  A special prayer will be recited on Thursday during the Quran session at 7 00 PM and on Friday during the Friday prayers at 1:30 PM.

The Center has organized similar emergency efforts when the hurricane Katrina struck New Orleans and following earthquakes in Iran and Pakistan.

Like other faith communities in the US and elsewhere, we see no inherent conflict between the normative values of Islam and the US Constitution and Bill of Rights.

Contrary to erroneous perceptions and Islamophobic propaganda of political extremists from various backgrounds, the true and authentic teachings of Islam promote the sanctity of human life, dignity of all humans, and respect of human, civil and political rights.  Islamic teachings uphold religious freedom and adherence to the same universal moral values which are accepted by the majority of people of all backgrounds and upon which the US Constitution was established and according to which the Bill of Rights was enunciated.

The Qur’an speaks explicitly about the imperative of just and peaceful co-existence, and the rights of legitimate self-defense against aggression and oppression that pose threats to freedom and security, provided that, a strict code of behavior is adhered to, including the protection of innocent non-combatants.
