Islamic
Culture:
In this section, the Islamic Center
will attempt to showcase the diversity of the Islamic culture and the
contributions to humanity.
" O mankind! We created you
from a single (pair) of a male and a female, and made you into nations
and tribes, that ye may know each other ... " Qur'an 49:13

Virtual Tour of The Haram Al-Sharif / The Noble Sanctuary in Jerusalem
LIMITLESS in His glory is He who transported His
servant by night from the Inviolable House of Worship [at Mecca] to the Remote
House of Worship [,at Jerusalem] - the environs of which We had blessed [1] -so
that We might show him some of Our symbols: for, verily, He alone is
all-hearing, all-seeing. Quran
Al-Isra,
17:1

At the heart of Jerusalem is the Noble Sanctuary,
Al-Haram al-Sharif, enclosing over 35 acres of fountains, gardens, buildings and
domes. At its southernmost end is Al-Aqsa Mosque and at its centre the
celebrated Dome of the Rock. The entire area is regarded as a mosque and
comprises nearly one sixth of the walled city of Jerusalem. |
|
The
Süleymaniye Mosque or Camii' was built on the order of Sultan Suleiman
and constructed by the great Ottoman architect Mimar Sinans between
1550-1557. It is located on the Third Hill of Istanbul, Turkey. It is
the second largest mosque in the city, and one of the best-known sights
of Istanbul.

The Journey of Ibn
Battuta |
 |
|
 |
|
Completed towards the end of
Muslim rule in Spain, the Alhambra is a place where artists and
intellectuals had taken refuge as Christian Spain won victories over Al
Andalus. The Alhambra mixes natural elements with man-made ones, and is
a testament to the skill of Muslim craftsmen of that time. |
|
Ibn Battuta was the only medieval
traveler who is known to have visited the lands of every Muslim ruler of
his time. He also travelled in Ceylon (present Sri Lanka), China and
Byzantium and South Russia. The mere extent of his travels is estimated
at no less than 75,000 miles, a figure which is not likely to have been
surpassed before the age of steam. |

Long before the discovery of
silk, and long before Chinese civilization had tome into being, people
moved and traded across the Asian landmass. The similarity of Neolithic
stone implements found in China to those found in northern Europe is
probably not accidental. |
|
What to expect to see at such places?
Colorful glass cases, carpets; books; bowls, pitchers and jugs; plates
made of ceramic, glass, metal and wood—nearly all made by unnamed and
unknown craftsmen and all used by the middle and upper classes in their
daily lives |
